Body Language Lesson 03.1 (Common Hand Movements 01)


If you are new to the Body Language Lesson series, then my personal advise is to read 
Body Language Lesson 01 (My Story) and Body Language Lesson 02 (Introduction)
 before reading this lesson.

Common Hand Movements 01

  • Shoulder Shrug - A person doesn't know / Doesn't understand.
  • Exposed Palms - Nothing is being concealed in the hands.
  • Scratching the Head - Uncertainty / Because of Dandruff
  • Continual Hair Touching / Twirling 
  1. - Under Pressure
  2. - Uncertain / Anxious

  • Hand-to-face Gesture - the index finger pointing up the cheek while another finger covers the mouth and the thumb supports the chin.
      listener is having critical thoughts about what he hears.
  • Legs being tightly crossed and the arm crossing the body (Defensive) while the head and chin are down (negative / Hostile)

  1. - I don't like what you're saying. 
  2. - I disagree.
  3. - I'm holding back negative feelings.
  4. - Rejecting

  • Unconsciously slipping the wedding ring on and off the finger - Marriage problems began to surface
  • Obese people can't cross their legs
Woman who where short skirts will sit with their legs tightly crossed for protection. So
- Less approachable
- Less likely to be asked to dance
  • When a five year old child tells a lie, he is likely to immediately cover his mouth with one or both hands.
  • When teenager tells a lie - Hand is brought to the mouth similar way but the fingers rub lightly around the mouth.
  • When adult tells a lie - 
  1. Attempt to block the deceitful
  2. The hand is pulled away from the face and a nose touch 

  • Open Palms - Honesty 
  • Pupils may contract, one eyebrow may lift or the corner of his mouth may twitch, and these signals contradict the open palm gesture and the sincere smile. The result is that the receivers, especially women, tend not to believe what they hear.
  • Will often hold one or both palms out to the other person and say some thing like "I didn't do it!", "I'm sorry if I upset you" this gesture describes that the person want to be open and honest.
  • When children are lying they hide there palms behind the back
