Introduction to Smiles and Laughter  - Body Language Lesson 05.1

  • A natural smile produces characteristic wrinkles around the eyes.
  • Insincere people smile only with their mouth.
  • Genuine smiles are generated by the unconscious brain (They are automatic).
  • When the smile is genuine, the fleshy part of the eye between the eye brow and the eye lid moves downwards and the end of the eye brows dip slightly.
  • Smile is contagious.
  • If we trying consciously to control our natural reactions, the twitching in our facial muscles tell a different story (We are mirroring the expressions that we are seeing even when we are trying not to).
  • Science has proved that the more you smile, the more positive reactions others will give you.
  • Your brain can identify a smile when a face is upside down.
  • Especially men, smile less than they usually do.
 - Because they think that the others also smiles falsely, so they decrease their smiles.
  • A liar's smile comes more quickly than a genuine smile and is held much longer.
  • A false smile often appears stronger on one side of the face than the other.
- When liars lie, the left side of the smile is usually more pronounced than the right.

  • When the liars lied, they smiled less or not at all, regardless of culture.
- People who were innocent and telling the truth increased their smiling frequency when being honest.
