More About Arm Signals

  • Reinforced Arm-Crossing.
  1. Called as Fists-Clenched-Arm-Crossed.
  2. Shows hostility as well as defensiveness.
  3. If combined with Tight-Lipped smile or clenched teeth and red face, a verbal or even physical attack could happen.
  4. A conciliatory approach is needed.
  • Arm-Gripping.
  1. Double-Arm-Grip.
  2. The person's hand tightly gripping there upper arms to reinforce themselves and avoid exposure of the front body.
  3. Some times the arms can be gripped so tight that the fingers and knuckles can turn white, blood circulations cut off.
  4. Seen in doctors and dentists, First time air travelers who are waiting for lift-off
  5. Shows negative, restrained attitude.
  6. Feeling insure and not buying what you sell.
  • The Palm-In-Palm Position.
  1. Superiority.
  • One or both hands in pocket.
  1. Non-Involvement.
  • Arm Fold Gesture With Both Thumbs. 
  1. Defensive, but he still thinks he's pretty cool and control.
  • Someone who is feeling defensive but also submissive at the same time.
  1. Who will sit in a symmetrical position.
  2. One side of there body is perfect mirror of the other.
  3. Display tense muscle tone and look as if they expect to be attacked.
  • A person who is feeling defensive and dominant will take an asymmetrical pose.
  1. One side of the body doesn't mirror the other side. 
  • When you're presenting your case to someone and the Thumbs-Up-Arms-Crossed appears towards the end of your presentation.
  1. Positive gesture.
  2. Signals you can move comfortably into asking the person for a commitment.
  3. If at the close of the presentation the other person takes the First-Clenched-Arm-Crossed position and has a poker face.

  • You can be inviting trouble by attempting to get "yes".
  • Better to ask questions to try to uncover the person's objections. 

  4. If someone says "no" to a proposal, it can become difficult to change their mind without looking as if  you're aggressive. 
  • When you can see a "No" before it's said, you can try a different approach.
  • People carrying weapons or wearing armor seldom use Arm-Gestures

  1. Because there weapon or armor provides sufficient body protection.
